Desperate - A Word From Our Senior Pastor Rick Webb

What is the level of spiritual desperation in your life? Personally, I believe this is the defining difference between passion and apathy. We have to want something so badly that we will pay whatever price and put forth whatever effort necessary to obtain the prize.

Think about the many different things in life that not only capture people’s attention but dominate their focal point. No one thinks it strange that someone has a fixation with football or antique cars or exercise or some hobby, but the moment someone is fixated with Jesus…thoughts of extremism or weirdness take hold. Why? Why when one run’s after an eternal pursuit with God with fervor and intense passion do people begin to question that individual’s sanity? Have we come to the place that in our culture we understand alcohol addiction, drug addiction, porno addiction but we squirm in unbelief at the thought of one possibly having a “God addiction”? I think we are long overdue for people to become so hooked on Jesus that all the other voices screaming for our attention would fade in the background and our dominating objective would be to chase God and live unashamedly for Him.

Maybe the misery levels that exist in the lives of so many professing believers has something to do with a divided heart. We are attempting to serve two masters and since Jesus said we can‘t possibly do it our hearts are exhausted in this endless pursuit for a meaningful life and we end up being miserable in everything we attempt to do. The misery index level in many Christians is appalling. We are suppose to be the “salt of the earth” the “Light of the world” and have the “Joy of the Lord” while living with a “peace that passes all understanding”. Mostly we see a fragmented, discouraged, defeated, anemic remnant that struggles to barely survive while attempting to plaster on a half hearted smile that they love Jesus above all other things. I think the world recognizes the farce. I personally believe that it is this phoniness that the world reacts to. I think it is this shallow journey that is causing so many church going people to say, enough is enough…I want the real thing!

Are you a part of the restless remnant? Are you desperate for a genuine encounter with God that produces legitimate Christianity fleshed out in our everyday activities? Are you tired of Churchianity? An addiction for God will cause you to become sick of church games, human manipulations, and passionless worship services. You will tire of just going through the motions…and you will become obsessed to live radically every day and every moment for Jesus.

Aren’t you hungry for more of Jesus?
